STRENGTH IN NUMBERS
When a neighborhood food drive threatens to overwhelm heroes Swoosh and MooMoo, a tiny leader named Ant the King and his colony arrive with a powerful solution. I worked with the author across 48 vibrant illustrations to create a story that teaches leadership, collaboration, and the courage to ask for help.
As the illustrator for this project, I brought the story to life with:
- Expressive, Detail-Rich Characters: Every expression and posture was carefully crafted to help young readers understand what the characters are feeling, from Swoosh’s determination to Ant the King’s quiet confidence and MooMoo’s thoughtful problem-solving.
- Vibrant Urban Scenery: Set against a colorful neighborhood backdrop, each spread is filled with warm, whimsical details that reward a closer look. The community feels alive, diverse, and familiar, giving children a visual world they can recognize themselves in.
- Seamless Story & Layout Integration: I used an engaging comic book format to support fluid narrative pacing. Kinetic layouts allow the story’s moments of planning, problem-solving, and triumph to land with impact.
The result is a heartfelt, visually engaging picture book that invites children to embrace community involvement, cooperation, and the courage to accept help, while introducing them to the value of food independence and collective action.
