FIND OUT HOW THIS MOBILE APP ICON PROJECT INSPIRED ME
ECO អេកូកសិករ (ECO Kasekor, in English) is a mobile app that compiles a wealth of knowledge about sustainable farming. It seeks to mitigate the over-and misuse of pesticides and destructive farming practices widespread in Cambodia. The app’s intended audience is rural farmers. Many of them may be semi-literate, so lessons are highly visual, full of illustrations and accompanying videos.

THE MOBILE APP ICON
The app icon appeals to local farmers by reflecting their visual context. It features a field worker wearing a traditional headwrap. Women in the region often wear these traditional scarves, called kramas, around their heads while working.

Creating a clean and optimistic icon was essential, so I used bright natural colors. The bright green of the figure’s headwrap and the deep olive green of her top is a direct nod to the mobile app’s sustainable roots.

I went with a mix of modern-traditional earthy fonts in the wordmark. Set atop the “C” in ECO is a green leaf accent. Because the app will be presented to a diverse audience, the are two versions of the wordmark, one in English and another in Cambodian language.
