Khéma La Poste 1st Birthday Social Media Contest

Khéma Deli Restaurant is a chain of smart-casual French restaurants in Cambodia.  It combines the convenience of a takeaway deli counter stocked with sumptuous house-made charcuterie and imported cheeses, a bakery and sit-down eatery.

Last October, Khéma La Poste celebrated its 1st anniversary. While working with its parent company, Thalias Hospitality, I ran a social media contest on Facebook and Instagram to commemorate it. To enter, user’s share photos and videos of their amazing Khéma La Poste experiences for chance to win 1 of 3 prizes.

Pre-Production & Planning

In the mad rush of the hospitality business, it can be a challenge to take a pause and celebrate milestones. Though, myself and the rest of my team wanted to change that for Khéma La Poste’s  1st anniversary.  Since it’s so close to the very foundation of Phnom Penh, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to showcase it. So, even though there was little time to prepare, we went to work.
 
Coordinating with Khéma’s 3 General Managers in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, we came up with a game plan.  In the end, we decided that it was very important to celebrate customers over the brand. Without them, the year would have been a dismal one indeed.  To do so, we came up with a 3 pronged plan. First we offered a free treat for any coffee or tea sale, second was a birthday cake giveaway on the outlet’s actual birthday (October 23rd) and third was a social media contest.

#KhemaBDay: The Social Media Contest

We didn’t want to only celebrate Khéma’s valuable customers, we wanted them to share their stories at La Poste.  Since the Khéma brand is about the experiences its customers have with friends and family over quality food, we choose a photo-based contest To enter, users shared their moments in the restaurant on Facebook and Instagram with the hashtag #KhemaBDay.  To announce the social media contest, I created a one minute motion graphic video in Resolve.   Using a mix of stock photos and Khéma’s product shots, I wanted to emphasize the fun of eating, sharing and winning.  I wanted excite anyone who saw the video to to ‘Celebrate With Us and Win!”  And to ensure we captured both local and expat markets, there are Khmer and English versions.
 
The video received over 40,000 views and had almost 50 shares and we received over 150 entries. Best of all, the contest gave birth to real personal relationships between entrants that I can still see blossoming online today.
